(c)2007 MAME is an emulator application designed to recreate the hardware of arcade game systems in software, with the intent of preserving gaming history and preventing vintage games from being lost or forgotten. The name is an acronym for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator. A few years ago I first discovered the many MAME websites. I started downloading as many of my favorite arcade games I could remember playing in the early eighties. Although I played many different and fun games from that time, there was one game that stood out as my favorite. It was a Star Trek game that came out in only two arcades, of the many arcades all around the Bay Area I went to. I first seen it right after Star Trek II came out in the theatres in 1982. I played it many times and loved the multi-colored vector graphics and the digitized speech of Spock and the ships computer. It was a fast moving game and ate a lot of my quarters because I wasn't very good. But then as quickly as it became my favorite game, it suddenly disappeared. Many years later I was given a sponsor at an overeaters anonymous meeting. He owned several arcades and a repair shop to keep them up and running all the time. I asked him about the Star Trek arcade game from 1982 and he told me it used a different kind of programming and hardware that broke down frequently making it difficult to keep repaired. And he could get me a machine for about $5,000. Well, I don't have to tell you my answer,...do I? But, after discovering MAME,...I finally got to play the game again after many years of separation. hehehe - And no more quarters either!!! :O) Note: This is just a short animation of a concept I've had for a videogame.
