A Coyote's Paradise

"A Coyote's Paradise" is a clayboard and acrylic piece that is 24" x 32", and it took approximately 120 hours to complete. This technique involves scratching and painting, in multiple layers, to achieve the hair-like result. In this piece, the scratching is only done on the coyote, whereas the scene is painted around him on the clayboard. The original is available for sale on my website at BigCatArt.com.

"A Coyote's Paradise" is an award winning piece. It took 3rd Best in Show (open/professional skill) at the "Reflections of Nature" wildlife art show and competition held annually by the Saskatchewan Wildlife Art Association in Saskatoon, SK. This show is one of the largest wildlife art shows in Western Canada, and attracts artists from across the country.

The reference photo for the coyote was taken by the artist at the Saskatoon Zoo, in Saskatoon, SK. The scene reference photo was found on WetCanvas.com.
