The Lacemaker

This is a little pastiche of Johannes Vermeer's, 'The Lacemaker' We saw the original last October whilst visiting the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. We were captivated by its perfect beauty and its gentle stillness. That's what I've aimed for here. The atmosphere of stillness and of silence. The concentration of the little lacemaker bent over her work. It's so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Vermeer's parents kept a very noisy pub. When viewing his works they often depict an ambiance of calm and quiet.
