A breed perfected in Germany with an English name, Boxers are descendants of fighting dogs and their manner of fighting with their front paws resulted in their being called "Boxers". Although they may have once been fighting dogs this member of the bulldog family makes a good family pet. They are intelligent, trainable, full of energy, loyal, and affectionate. Their great courage and keen hearing make them good guard dogs but they have also been used as hunting dogs, police dogs, and seeing eye dogs.
