Now You See It.....

Last week was our first trip to Sunrise Visitor Center for the season. As the day began, the mountain was out in all her glory. But as the day progressed, the clouds moved in, mostly as we sat on the top of 1st Burroughs Mt. eating our lunch. In the second photo, the double-triangle formation is called the Wedge. This is part of the northern route to summit the mountain. On this day, thru binoculars, we saw 16 people assending the center of the wedge to Sherman Camp. It's the base camp, you stay over-night, then you can summit and return to base camp the same day. The wedge is very steep so it takes a while to get to base camp. The weather can change quickly at high elevations and we watched as the clouds came in and eventually covered the entire mountain. What started as a climb in the sun, quickly changed into a day of wind and clouds. I can only imagine what it must have been like for those climbers on the Wedge.
