My Mother at 18 years

There was an old black and white photo of my mother. She got to see the painting before she passed away.

your mother is a beautiful woman, this is a most brilliant painting

Artist Reply: Thank you for the wonderful comment. Mom passed in July of 1997. Most of what I know about art I learned from her. She did ad slicks, when I was young, for local businesses.

She is so beautiful Stanley, well done...Cath xxx

Artist Reply: Cathie, Thank you for your kind comments. There used to be a Barbara Brock here in Logansport, but that was years ago. Her dad, Roger ran a service station close to my families home for a while. My mother raised four boys of which, I am the oldest. When I was very young she would bake three loaves of bread twice a week with dinner rolls on Sunday and two pies or a cake for the weekend. When brother #3 was born we got dinner rolls on Thanksgiving and Christmas, home made bread when the kitchen was cold in the Fall or Winter. She created hand drawn ad slicks for local busineses in the late 50s. I have a few of her paintings. She did not drive. Patrons had to come to her. They would always want to know what the wonderful baking smells were. If they had time they would visit a bit have a cup of coffee apiece of cake or a cookie. The coffee was always on. By the time brother # 4 arrived, the ad slick business had dried up and she turned her attention to gardening. She managed to do that for several years but suffered from asthma and hay fever. She also made clothing. Later she made cloth and sculpy head dolls. Some were made of epoxybond. Her Knome appeared on the cover of Dolls Magazine. I wish that I had gotten a copy of it. I did keep the newspaper clippings regarding her dolls and a couple of copies of The Cloth Doll that she contributed to with designs and patterns for making dolls. Some of my early cartoons appeared in those magazines also. Sorry, for rambling so much! Stan
