Angelina Jolie, Mrs Smith portrait.

Just finished this yesterday and I'm really pleased with the results. I was wanting to get a more realistic look to my graphite pencil work and so I looked around on AW and saw James McDowell's Kate Winslet, check it out if you've not seen it. He made reference to a time lapse video of the piece so I watched it and picked up the tip of using an ear-buddy and cloth for smudging and what a difference! So thanks James!!!! All I need now are some tips on the other equipment and paper type to use. Anyway, I'm Very pleased with the results and hope you like it too. Thank you for dropping by. 12" x 16". B - 4B pencils on heavy watercolour paper.

Hi Ruth, Beautiful work! In regards to paper, I recommend either Bristol paper or I use Arches HP (Hot Pressed) watercolour paper, 300gsm, 'wrong side' and this works a treat, (as I love to create lots of detail!). You could also use torchons for blending/smoothing and try mechanical pencils in various lead strips as well, (as opposed to wooded-cased pencils). Lead pencils rule! Happy drawing!
