Location: South of Sceptre, Saskatchewan, Canada. What? Sand dunes in Canada? Yup. There are several areas in western Canada with active dunes. The Great Sand Hills of southwestern Saskatchewan are among the most well known. This area is not actually desert. The annual percipitation is a bit too high. The dunes are the remains of pulverized rock left behind by the retreating glaciers at the end of the last glacial age.
