The Great Sand Hills

Location: South of Sceptre, Saskatchewan, Canada. What? Sand dunes in Canada? Yup. There are several areas in western Canada with active dunes. The Great Sand Hills of southwestern Saskatchewan are among the most well known. This area is not actually desert. The annual percipitation is a bit too high. The dunes are the remains of pulverized rock left behind by the retreating glaciers at the end of the last glacial age. Minolta Maxxum 7000, 75-200mm lens, Fujichrome 50, no filter, no colour manipulation. Copyright Peter Skov.

Excellent shot! I was expecting to see that this was taken some where in the Sahara!

I believe I am there I feel the wind and I feel them close to my skin

Artist Reply: The wind sure was blowing that afternoon. So much that my tripod fell over and my camera got dunked in the sand. I got a severely scratched rol of film out of it. By evening, when this photo was taken, the wind was barely a breeze.
