The open-air museum of Bokrijk

Old houses are being demolished to make way for new construction, rightly so. However, some are worth preserving as an architectural heritage, but what if they get in the way? Then, if possible, they can be housed in an open-air museum. That is what has happened in Bokrijk since the late 1950s. Brick by brick and beam by beam, old constructions are taken apart, numbered and rebuilt on the museum grounds. In this busy museum, there is animation on the weekends by volunteers, dressed in matching outfits, who also showcase old crafts and music.

Fabulous...treasures of the past....technology and lucre are co-equal elements in the elimination of so many beautiful pearls of architectural wonder. Paint as many as you can, so they will not all be lost in the annals of forgotten history.

Artist Reply: Thanks Elton ... and I do my best

Beautiful painting Ivo. Reminds of of the historic Williamburg, Va area, except it is not the simple american homes of the 1600's.

Artist Reply: Thanks Ginger
