The Ford Sportsman was the first wood-bodied convertible ever produced & it evolved on the whim of company president Henry Ford II. Its designer (Bob Gregorie) copied wood-paneled themes from the company's station wagons & used expensive mahogany plywood from Ford’s wartime production plant used to build gliders.
