ROSTAM BATTLES

Our world cultures have always fascinated me. For this painting, I was truly inspired by one of the world's famous poet "Ferdowsi" of Persia / Iran. His masterpiece "The book of kings / Shahnameh" is the longest epic poems in the world. It tells mainly about mythical and historical past of the Persian Empire from the creation of the world until the Arab conquest of Iran. This painting is one of the heart breaking epics from the book of kings about a battle between two of Persia's heroes. Rostam (the general) and Esfandiar (the prince). Esfandiar after birth was bathed in the pool filled with immortal water and he closed his eyes as his keeper submerged him into the pool. Due to Esfandiar's immortality, Rostam could not defeat him in battle. When Rostam found out about the Esfandiar's mortal eyes, he realized that his only chance to defeat Esfandiar was to shoot him in the eyes.
