Witoogies Art Australian Birds Susan Willemse

Witoogies is the Afrikaans name for White-eyes, these small little birds seen in Africa, Asia, and Australia are also known as Silver-eyes. It is actually the feathers around their brown eyes that are white, normally they hide behind foliage and are hard to see but these were busy eating figs in our fig tree. They were photographed in Australia but it was in South africa that I first saw them hence the title of this artwork, our surname is also Afrikaans, similar to Dutch. They are larger than life, the artwork being 46cm x 92cm x 3.5cm, the birds being 10-12cm.
