This colored pencil painting is based on a photograph that I took of an old house in Bishop Hill, Illinois, an historic Swedish community. I thought the house was very interesting and I wanted to use it as a background of sorts for pocket watches. I hope that you look long enough to find the watches in the composition. This piece is done on Dura-lar polyester film using Prismacolor Verithin colored pencils. It's dimensions are 8 inches X 10 inches. I like old houses and I like pocket watches, hence the title, "Time and Place". I hope that you find this piece pleasing.

You did a very good job. Even the geraniums take on a characteristic look.

Artist Reply: Charles: thank you so much for your generous comments. I enjoy detail and try to make all aspects of my work look as realistic as I can. I also like placing "ghost" images into the pieces, as I did with the old pocket watches in this case. I'm pleased that you find this piece to your liking. Have a great week. Best regards, Will

Well done Will ! and well titled ! This piece is certainly different. I had thought it to be a house in Italy.. or perhaps France.. Bravo !

Artist Reply: Judy: thanks for taking time to view my work. Your very nice comment is greatly appreciated. I do love old stone homes and old pocket watches. It seemed a natural to combine the two, hence the title of the piece. The pocket watches are "ghost" images of a sort. I enjoy making the viewer look beyond just the surface of my pieces. Have a great day. Best regards, Will

I find windows a interesting subject. Good work !

Artist Reply: Thanks! I like to do windows with reflections of street scenes etc. in them. The windows in this particular piece don't show any reflections. Thanks again for your comments. Have a Happy New Year. Best regards, Will

Artist Reply: Prasad: thank you so much. I too love to include details in my realistic pieces. But I also like to include ghost images in some of them. I like old pocket watches and decided to add some to this old stone home. Hence, the title of the piece. Best regards, Will

I really like your pencil work. the detail is great.

Hi Will, Your comment on my art got me here...u r amazing kind of artist ...the watches in the back ground looked like watermark at first,as I read on those were part of the masterpiece, wow..amazing detailed work. Thanks for sharing such a nice work :)

Artist Reply: Rajesh:Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my work. Your comments are so very generous and a much appreciated. I do love detail! But I enjoy doing it very much. When I can, I like to place other "ghost" images within the original image. Gives the viewer another thing to think about while looking. I'm glad that you find my work pleasing. Thank you again and all the best. Will

Love this! So detailed just the kind of thing I love, having been told off for so many years for "overworking and fiddling "my pictures it's really nice to see someone who works detail so well !

Artist Reply: Jill: Thanks so much! I sometimes think that I'm getting a bit too much detail, but I love those details. If I do a piece, I want it to look as much like the actual scene as I can render it. So, if you also feel this way, go with your heart and how you feel about the given piece. Thanks again. Best regards, Will

Danny Chabino 19 Aug 2015

Very cool! I love this! Nice use of light.

Artist Reply: Danny: thanks so much for your generous comments! The light and the shadows were very interesting in this scene. I'm glad that you find them realistic. Regarding the placement of pocket watches in the walls...this stems from feeling these are a time piece of the past and that they seemed to fit right in with this old masonary house. Thanks again. Best regards, Will

Stefani Wehner 10 Aug 2015

You did a wonderful job there, Will!

Artist Reply: Stefani: thanks so much. I like old houses such as this one and I also like pocket watches. I decided to "shadow" in some watches for interest. The title of the piece then emerged. Kind of took me be surprise. Thanks again and have a great week. Best regards, Will

Hi, Will. Thank you for your kind remarks. This piece is well crafted. It caught my eye. I appreciate the way you sketched the greenery with the red flowers. I noticed the pocket watches before reading your description. Clever.

Artist Reply: Mike: thanks so much! I'm glad that you saw the watches on your own. I was afraid that viewers might not notice them, but I didn't want to make them too obvious. I appreciate your kind comments. Best regards, Will
