Oh...What a Day!

This is the pencil drawing that got me licensed as an "Official Emmett Kelly, Jr. Artist"!!! It was taken from the painting by D. Rust (Rusty) called "Hungry Elephant", who I soon became friends with through emails. I did it just for fun and posted it in the "Friends of Emmett Kelly, Jr." E-group. I just thought they might enjoy seeing it. Well....boy did I hear about it!! I got several emails from a handful of poeple (one from Sue Poteete, a world reknowned and fantastic licensed Emmett Kelly, Jr. artist, who I have since also became friends with throught our emails) telling me that I was not allowed to do that...and I better not do it again! I had no idea! Next morning I got a phone call from "Greenstuff Licensing Company" (who own the rights to Emmett's image and signature) telling me that I could be sued for drawing Emmett without a license! I said...."Well...so how do I get a license?" She told me I could submit some of my artwork to show, but that they only dealt with top notch artists. I did...and the next phone call I got...again from "Greenstuff" was telling me that they would proud to have me as one of their artists! I am now licensed to do Acrylic paintings and sell prints of those paintings! I could have been sued! The license is fairly new and I am still in the process of getting appropriate reference material...but it is almost together and very soon...I will be devoting a large amount of my time to painting the "World's Favorite Clown"! Although this drawing is not for sale...I will soon have Giclee prints, as well as less expensive photographic prints available and you can be sure I will run them by all you fantastic artist for your critiques! I din't mean to turn this into an ad...but if you are interested....please feel free to email me.

Everybody loves a clown, ain't it? I do! Great mood. Really good pencil work. Love it!

A wonderful story Patti Jo! I am glad that you got past all the formalities unscathed. I didn't know one could get in trouble like that either. What about the people that do Hollywood Stars and sell them? I never have but, I know some most likely do. I have looked at many of your phtos and drawings and must say they are impressive indeed. Very lovely to view and contain a treasure of feeling. Again I say Bravo! I can sense your entusiasm, it is great!! Lots of love to you and peace. This is wonderful to see, your very first drawing of this Beloved person. CB
