Fiddlehead Ferns

First in the series, "Heteromorphic Botanicals". 36" x 36" oil on canvas. Copyright 2010 Kathleen Kelly Laedo x Stradivarius is remarkable for its resemblance to the musical instrument. Its strings, tinkling in the wind, fall to the ground in late fall and become runners propagating new ferns. These ferns are shown with one of its parent plants, Matteuccia struthiopteris, or ostrich fern.
