Meerzad

After completing his post-graduate studies from Ottawa University, he moved to Niagara Falls in 1969, where he took a job as graphic design engineer. He started painting in 1975 when he moved to Anchorage, Alaska. He devoted considerable time to painting when he moved from Denver to Los Angeles in 1980 and later on got involved with Sumiye art when he moved to San Francisco. His earlier highly colored figurative paintings and Chinese ink work was exhibited in Braunstein Gallery, Los Angeles and Heritage gallery, San Francisco. He abandoned the hectic life of a senior corporate executive in 1993 and decided to devote himself entirely to painting while living in complete isolation from rest of the world.

His temperamental turbulence was fostered by the more bracing intellectual climate of San Francisco, in particular by the impact of the American abstract expressionism movement. Sumiye art which allows no deliberation and doctoring led him to follow his inspirations spontaneously and absolutely which manifest in his characteristic style. His work today can be described as a kind of abstract figurative painting, which links the tactile and sensual color qualities associated with a metaphysical elements derived from the American tradition. To date his work consists of more than 1800 paintings in various mediums and that does not include his digital graphic compositions, artistic posters and photographic art.
