The Idea

“A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on.” – John F. Kennedy

Some of the greatest ideas come to us in the middle of the night, as we’re tossing and turning, hoping to get a few hours of precious sleep. But that rush of adrenaline kicks in… Sometimes it’s an idea for an invention or a concept for business venture. Maybe it’s a vision for an art piece or a set of lyrics for that song you’ve been trying to write. Ideas are what promote us and give us courage. They catapult our dreams.

This painting is the discovery of those late-night butterflies of hope and ambition. Each color represents all the waking hours of contemplating our zealous ideas and revelations. Being able to fall asleep in peace with the birth of an idea is the foundation of how this world rotates.

Radiance

“Learning how to be still, to really be still and let life happen – that stillness becomes a radiance.” – Morgan Freeman

Being still and letting life happen can be very challenging, and sometimes near impossible. How many of us could just “let life happen” without worrying, pondering, obsessing or overthinking…? Silencing our thoughts and emotions and just be still?

This painting is called Radiance for its graceful tides of tranquility. The burnt-orange and yellow represent warmth and rejuvenation. Setting a purposeful appointment to be still and “let life happen” is just what our soul desires.

Take a deep breath, find a quiet place and let your soul’s radiance be revived.

Carnival

“Life is like a carnival. When you are little, everything is smoke, mirrors, and illusions. Then you grow up.” – Linda Poindexter

Imagine when you were a kid and you’d go to the carnival or circus. All the colors seemed brighter and the rides were enormous. Your cotton candy was a fluffy piece of heaven. There were no calories to worry about and no dizzy spells from the rides. It was just a lively spectacle of imagination and fun!

This painting Carnival depicts animated scenes of a boisterous atmosphere. A sight that is charged up with energetic fusion and wild echoes of expression. The splashes of color expose the assembly of all the carnival artists and vendors hustling about, making magic happen for the youthful at heart.

Summer is here, it’s time to enjoy our favorite pastimes!

Surface

“When everything is moving and shifting, the only way to counteract chaos is stillness. When things feel extraordinary, strive for ordinary. When the surface is wavy, dive deeper for quieter waters.” – Kristin Armstrong

Surface was inspired by a combination of opposing elements: disorder and tranquility, both of which meet in the center as an abstract horizon made of possibilities.

The shallow peaks of volcanic colors billowing beneath the earth’s surface is a montage of expression portraying fear and doubt. On the other spectrum is a peaceful atmosphere, expanding positive energy and reconciliation.

One of two things can happen when we centralize these contrasting ingredients. We can either let the fear take over our lives or we can paint a new picture with quieter waters. Ultimately we have the power to pacify our souls.

Equilibrium

“Feeling is the consciousness of the resulting conditions – of success, failure, equilibrium, compromise or balance, in this continuous rivalry of ideas.” – James Mark Baldwin

The need for balance is a necessity for our spirit and overall well-being. Without our physical and mental equilibrium, a chaotic mindset ensues. It’s imperative to find or create a place to channel our inner balance and symmetry so that we’re able to gracefully handle diversions and the overwhelming responsibilities of life.

This painting produces the shades of serenity drifting in from a treacherous voyage eager to discover a parallel spirit to envelop. The calmness of the marinating swells in this aquatic image is a peaceful reminder that there are many ways to seek balance in our lives.

Cascade

“When you drop any new idea in the pond of the world, you get a ripple effect. You have to be aware that you will be creating a cascade of change.” – Joel A. Barker

Change is inevitable for all of us. We’re constantly evolving, developing, and progressing toward the next phase of our lives. The world is always moving around and growing older. Weather patterns are sporadic and fluctuate. Science and technology seem to procure results more quickly these days with new studies and findings. Art is continuous, edgy, and flows through main stream media every day with new ideas and sprouting concepts. Change is everywhere, every day.

The painting Cascade is the creation of change. This glowing torrent is earth mixing itself up in space, creating a graceful energy for its inhabitants to emulate. Thus concluding that change or transformation begins with the universe.

Embrace each moment as it evolves and live each day with the reminder that change is essential.

Surge

“Enthusiasm is the yeast that makes your hopes shine to the stars. Enthusiasm is the sparkle in your eyes, the swing in your gait. The grip of your hand, the irresistible surge of will and energy to execute your ideas.” – Henry Ford

Have you ever been “in the zone”, so inspired that nothing could draw you away from your task? This surge of energy streaming through your soul and the feeling of empowerment to finally release your vision is just what you needed to launch your intentions, your awareness and your purpose.

This painting Surge is like a wave of energetic brilliance flowing beneath your skin, making your heart beat just a bit quicker, releasing excitement for a voyage unseen--a vision beyond your comprehension. The lightly colored ripples in this painting expend wholeness and achievement while the green ripples produce growth and hope altogether creating empowerment.

Go beyond the walls of your mind and discover your freedom as it invokes the surge of power to create your vision!

Distance

"Life is like a landscape. You live in the midst of it but can describe it only from the vantage point of distance." - Charles Lindbergh

Try to imagine viewing your own life--your disposition, experiences and accomplishments--as an outsider. What would you see? Would you see a genuinely happy, well-rounded person? Or would you see the need for improvement?

The painting Distance is a reminder of how far we've come through the events of life. The muddled portions of color in this painting are like footsteps through the rough terrain. It might seem bleak when you're in the moment but once you take a step back and see how far you've come, you start to notice the lighted path of perseverance.

Never cease to move forward but always remember to take a step back once in awhile and observe your life from a distance. You might learn a thing or two about yourself from a diverse perspective.

Origin

"Fantasy, abandoned by reason, produces impossible monsters; united with it, she is the mother of the arts and the origin of marvels." - Francisco de Goya

Sometimes there's no logic in art. There's only the illusion of something greater. Art is expression; a fantastical world in which an artist's mind travels. Occasionally, there aren't enough colors in the spectrum to convey what an artist envisions. Art is a feeling; an energetic vibration of an altered life.

The virtual movement in this painting merges energy with fantasy. The intensity of the contrast in colors and progression illustrates the origin of abstract art.

I started painting in 2005. The journey and evolvement has enriched my soul immensely. I paint with appreciation for life--the past, present and future. My heart is overwhelmed with gratefulness to everyone who shares in my passion. Going forward into the upcoming year, I will continue to create, inspire and affect those around me with heightened marvels of color and energy.

Pirate

"Every generation welcomes the pirates from the last." Lawrence Lessig, Free Culture: The Nature and Future of Creativity

It’s fun to play “pirates”, dressing up and fighting with plastic swords. Pirates are the ultimate rebels, the misfits of the sea…! If you seek adventure beyond your comfort zone, you’re somewhat a pirate.

Pirates are treasure-seekers by nature. Each of us has treasure buried deep inside our souls. This treasure can be jewels of knowledge, creativity, or an undiscovered passion.

This painting emerged as a cave of buried treasure. My intention was to invoke the pirate in each of us to search for the hidden treasure of your soul.

I challenge you to awaken your inner pirate to hunt for your soul’s buried treasure.
