Ji Hong Zhang

Born: 16 October 1966 Hangzhou, China

Completed studies: 1985 - 1990 The National Chinese Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou China. Sculpture Department.

1982 - 1985 Affiliated High School of the National Chinese Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou China.

1981 - 1982 Red Star Art Middle School in Hangzhou China.

Ji Hong is born in China and moved to the Netherlands in 1994, for 5 years now she is living and working alternately in China and Netherlands.

As a girl of 9 years old Ji Hong amazed her parents, family and neighbours by making her first sketch of an portrait artwork, which she still keep in a map for inspiration. From that day on her fascination for the fine art increased rapidly. At the age of 15 year old Ji Hong applied for the Red Star Art School. And after only one year in 1982 she did her entrance exam and was accepted for the Art High School of the National Academy of China. In that periode of her artist education Ji Hong was looking for the right direction by studying both the chinese art history and the western art history. And simultaneously she skilled herself in the chinese calligraphy and inkpainting and design, painting, etc. After the three years of Art High School Ji Hong wanted to go to best possible and the highest recommanded art academy in China, the Chinese National Academy of Fine Arts were only the best talents can apply for. Encouraged by her teachers she successfully passed her exam and started at the Sculpture department. Here finally Ji Hong found her true direction making sculptures and beside that she enjoy very much the dance classes. So both skills are found as an synthese in her ballet sculptures. And Ji Hongs skills in chinese calligraphy and deep interest for the chinese philosophies as Yin Yang and Zhan ( Zen in Japan) are to be found as a synthese with new inspiration and experimental works of art.
