Self Portrait

Lohith N Kesarmadu.

I had always thought that my eyes can see through everything, can look at a number of things simultaneously with clarity.

Colors, for me, are like a time line and portrait of the inner self.

At any one moment, when my eyes are looking at something, only one spot will translate into a clear image, all else appears vague. At any specific moment, everything that is within sight forms as an image. I especially love vague and ambiguous spaces. They let your imaginations run wild. Or think of the beautiful scenery that exists behind a layer of mist, coming in and out of existence. These are the very basic nature of my paintings, weaving through the pursuit of my artistic expression and creativity; I try to depict forms that are analogous to the psyche and spirit. I use my art as a way to bring a new perspective to people in subjects and things that are often gone unnoticed and overlooked in everyday life.

For me art was a matter of childhood experience during a busy schedule in the advertising empire, as it was in college of management too but life made me adopt it seriously after a very tragic accident. A spinal cord injury which made me immobile for years. It was that time I saw life in its own way in which I had missed out on a lot of simple things as we all do. Still, hope made me hold the pen and the journey began through the canvas of life; for at that time every simple moment had become a mere measure of enhancement. For me Life, loneliness and transcendence had actually become subjects of my paintings. As we all know a human being is neither perfect like God, nor ignorant like an animal. Humans, who are caught in this boundary of the two extremes, exist incompletely.

This imperfectness deeply fascinates me. I became keenly aware of its subtlety and elegance. I realized that this was not all from the surface but the inner life of the human being and it was reflected in and presented in my art.

All these thoughts have made me a passenger of the time, who looks to same, and investigates in the question that shows itself in him.

Like most artists, my art represents a statement by me of my feeling toward the subject as for any particular painting. I always try to get an "Eye" or two into my paintings.

I feel that since paintings should have souls, you (the viewer) need to communicate with that soul through its "Eyes". Lastly I want to make artworks that people can appreciate from the heart, not from the brain; unlike most of the contemporary art. I hope to be able to express my deep interest, awe and admiration for all human being. Thank you.

regards, Lohith NK..
