I am a self-taught artist born in 1953 in Rockford, Illinois, where I have lived my entire life, except for four years in the U.S. Navy where I served on a frigate home-ported in Athens, Greece. I have been working full-time as a painter for almost twenty years. I sell nationally through several galleries and dealers. (See my website and Google search Stephen Warde Anderson for more info.) Inspired by an interest in vintage films, history, and literature, I produce a variety of work ranging from feminine portraits to fantasy tableaux and florals. I work in acrylic often with oil painting techniques and Prismacolor overworkings, and while the work is sophisticated technically, it retains a naive quality that classifies it as outsider or folk art.
