Jim - acrylics on wood

This was a commissioned portrait - In some ways I am happy with it, but in many ways I am not... when I do a portrait, I want it to look just like the subject... and this painting does not portray Jim's great smile and laughing eyes the way I wanted it to... it was a very difficult painting for me to execute. My reference material was a 3" low-resolution webcam snapshot, from a computer monitor... and the painting is large, at 16x12"... The angle of the face is unusual being somewhat from above bringing some foreshortening - and normal and spacing (ie: the space between the eyebrows and eyes seeming shorter than if being viewed from straight on) it was in very low-lighting at night... It was also the first real portrait I've done of a man ... This was one of my most challenging projects to date... painted in acrylics on wood.
