This was a dog sled race in Granby, Colorado in February, 2006. The young girl in this photo was just 12 years old. She took first place in her catagory. It was interesting that most of the racers had a variety of dogs. Some had just Semoyeds, but others had cross mixes like these. Apparantely "mushers" are experimenting with breeds which are bigger, stronger and faster than the typical huskies. Many use German Shorthaird Pointer mixes. It was very exciting with all of the barking and holding of the teams before they were released, one team every 15 seconds. It was a two mile track so sometimes one team overtook another. It looks a if it would be fun to try.
