Almost time for the weekend again. Where is this summer flying to? This is the last weekend with the family before they take their trip to Biloxi. I'm hoping to get a lot of work done. I have a couple paintings in the works and a calligraphy piece that I need to get finished. We'll see. I tend to be easily sidetracked these days.
Speaking of side - tracks....
While visiting the Clinton Green I happened upon this little lady on the side of the road. She was all alone and she was my hero of the day. She did not give me her name but she gave me permission to use her image on my blog. Until next time...

Rainy day... A good day for creating.

I had a pretty busy weekend. Saturday evening the family and I attended a party that some of my relatives throw every year. We had such a great time. Everyone brings a dish, they hire some live music and we all take turns getting into The Shack Outback. (My cousin's "man cave". It's his own personal bar. Really. It sort of reminds me of some of the bars I used to frequent in Pittsburgh.) I swear my relatives have the party gene. I guess we make the most of life and celebrate the summer, because the winter is a long and harsh one in Upstate, NY.

Sunday was just as busy. I spent the morning with my Dad, then I joined my wife and son on an adventure to Clinton, NY. We were visiting an artist she is writing about on her blog. (Jarrod Jaquays) He's a potter that is from Waterville, NY. He has studio space at the Kirkland Art Center. It was a pretty neat trip. Jarrod's a pretty interesting guy. Plus, we were treated to some more live music on the Clinton Green when Heather finished interviewing. Check out her blog on the 15th to read more about Mr. Jaquays.

It was so much fun with the family this past weekend. I keep thinking about next weekend. We all have to work so it won't be quite so busy with activities. Probably just hanging out with my brother and his wife along with my parents. The wife and kids will be visiting her Mother in Biloxi, MS for 10 days starting on the 16th. I'll have nothing but time to create some art then. We'll see what comes!

Until next time... Some words to ponder:

"The true measure of a man is not his intelligence or how high he rises in this freak establishment. No, the true measure of a man is this: how quickly can he respond to the needs of others and how much of himself he can give."

Hello again.

I'm starting to get the hang of this, again. I added a few more images to the portfolio this week. Another sneak peak from the Lazy George collection. I also added some watercolors that I painted while in school in Pittsburgh.

I'm continuing to make progress with Lazy George. I have almost completed the image layout and now onto the formatting of text. (Again!) It's pretty funny to think I was always frustrated with authors I worked with because they were always changing the formatting of their books. Now I understand. Sometimes the text has to change for the image and vice-versa. I must admit I had no idea what a challenge it would be to get this story to the world. I am learning something new every day!

I thought I'd end my post with a quote today:

Back to the 9-5... Or in my case the 7:30 to 5:30. If only I could stay at camp. The scenery did inspire some artwork. I should be sharing some soon!
I know this one is short, but I didn't want to have months (or years) in between posts again. I have to get back into the habit of sharing my life along with my art!
Thanks for reading. You know the line...

I am a man of my word and so here I am again. I just wanted to give a shout out to the people that comment on my artwork. I appreciate every comment. I like the good and the bad. If you see something that you believe could use some constructive criticism, by all means, have at it. We are all a part of this site because we value the opinion of other artists. We don't learn and grow if we are unaware of our mistakes.
So check out these other artists; browse their portfolios, leave them some comments, purchase some art:

Ruth Sears, Emily Reed, Sharon Gonzalez, Adrian Bayreuther and Stefani Wehner

I am off to beautiful Kring Point State Park in Redwood,NY. I plan on enjoying a fantastic weekend of camping in the Thousand Islands region of my wonderful state. I'm sure the scenery will inspire some new artworks.
Until next time...

Wow! My last post was April 2009! Do I have some things to share with you. my life has changed a lot in the last two years. My wife and I are now the proud parents of two children. My daughter was born in March of 2010. I am no longer a resident of the great city of Pittsburgh. I moved back to my hometown of Phoenix, NY. Our little family really needed a change of pace. I am currently in the stages of writing and illustrating my own children's books. The first one, Lazy George, will hopefully be in print soon. My interim website is up at jrrcreativeillustrations.us and my full website should soon take its place. I'm still working out the kinks. My career in music is taking shape. I have joined Primer Radio, a local Phoenix,NY band, as a singer/songwriter. We hope to be capable of playing in local bars and nightclubs within the year. We still have a lot to learn. Our current works are available to be heard through Reverbnation.com/primeradio. Check us out, download a song, leave some feedback. We appreciate every visitor!
I hope you continue to check out my blog. I promise to update it at least every week.
Keep reading and I'll keep creating!
Until next time...

"We wander together through time and substance, this is where we walk in the shadows of our fathers heroes, strung out on history and the mythology of madmen. So we drowned ourselves with the juice of a million fine poisons, running like hell into the mouth of madness and keeping a small notebook on hand to document its monstrosities."

What had we become?
Your eyes squinted and you talked as the sunset concentrated on blinding us,
but we were warm and the stories were long....

Hello again, just giving another update on the "where in the hell is Jesse's artwork" watch! Im currently just plugging along on the Plink book and trying to adapt my style etc as i go. Its a real challenge! Some people think you are an artist and you play with crayons and markers or you play on a computer all day, all the classics. Let me tell you this stuff is no joke. I do have a new fish under construction but its on hold until i finish these first few illustrations for the book. I really want to make sure this book/series will be a strong, strong representation of my work. This thing needs to be a catapult. Anyhow hopefully soon for anyone waiting...i dont know what else to tell you.

We are born as clay...to be made into the works of our own art....JRR

Just wanted to say a happy Monday after Easter and apologize for my lack of posts this last weekend. We were so busy with my parents in town to see little Benny for the holiday that there was really no time for art. We spent the majority of the time outdoors readying the backlawn for flowers and such. The grandparents brought bubbles for the boy and we all had a great time seeing how far they would fly. Everyone had to take turns and get their hands on that big bubble wand; you forget how fun these things were when you were a kid ya know...I think it was really a reminder to everyone on some level that the simplest things are still the best. Which brings everything full circle back to art and I suppose what could be one of my underlying themes, the beauty of things which most people either dont recognize or take for granted.
Here i am building my new birdbath from 90% found materials!
