Forgotten Muse by Angela Sasser

For a long while now, I have felt my inspiration fading, lost under so much demand and the leering eye of perpetual criticism. It's a funny feeling to feel that creative force inside of you withering. Time feels so empty, as if I were lost in the dark from one moment to the next with so many ideas fading into obscurity. There's just been no time to nurture that muse, no time to really devote myself to anything I love.

This is probably the first image I've been proud of since <a href=http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/6568618/?qo=1&q=by%3Aladydove7&qh=boost%3Apopular+-in%3Ascraps">Uriel and I still don't think I'll ever create anything to measure up to him again.

However, I don't see this as a monument to the lost, but rather the birth of new opportunities. It is the season of change for me and this will be but the first of what I hope to be many, many pieces of art done because I enjoy it and not because I'm trying to force the art to meet other people's expectations.

Take my advice, don't ever ignore your muse...for she may never return...

My dreams tend to cling to the inside of my eyes, even when I can't quite remember exactly what they were about.

Another piece for my senior show coming up June 24th. I'll have a better version of this up once I work up the patience to scan this large of an image 16 times.

A Crow's Recompense by Angela Sasser

There once was a girl who lived in a glass house and every day she looked out upon the world she had left behind. They were so cruel and hateful to her, ridiculing her awkwardness and fearful of her dark raven hair, but was isolation any better?

One day while she gazed upon her reflection in the lake by her home, she heard the cawing of a murder of crows, each one who spoke a word in sequence so that they became a single voice.

"Come with us and we will help you. Come with us and we can set you free from this place."

Unable to find the courage to leave by herself and fearful of those she had left behind, the girl agreed, for who could resist freedom amidst hopelessness and weakness?

At this, the crows' calling became louder and they each flew through the girl's heart, binding it to themselves. The girl felt such happiness at their flight and the newfound feeling of freedom on their wings that she wept with joy.

But every day, a crow would leave and by nightfall it returned with the crushed soul of a former friend. Every day, in return for offering her the freedom from ridicule, a life was destroyed and a little piece of her was consumed.

One piece, two pieces,
eight pieces, nine pieces,

In the end, she found freedom in the belly of a 100 crows.

Just a little story inspired by a dream I had one day that led to this painting. This piece will be displayed in my senior show. Come on by if you're in the West Georgia area on the 29th!

I hope to get a better picture of this once I get the courage to put this under a scanner bed for 16 passes.

Acrylic, Puzzle Pieces. 30"x40."

A book cover commission for Blacksent, a fantasy series by Michael A LaFlamme and Michael D. Poe coming soon to a store near you! Keep an eye on Blacksent on DeviantART for more info soon to follow. This is but the first of an ongoing series soon to come.

You are the light of my life, though you cannot see the peace you bring. Your heart is placid but the tranquil wind carries inescapable memories. You have already ascended them, yet they will grow from your heart forever. Your sword is sheathed, your soul is pure.
Now there is only silence, harmony, and the whispers of the future.

A birthday present for my beloved Kevin Deane (aka. Kaioshade) and the first nearly from scratch digital work I've ever accomplished with Photoshop CS2. I'm so very proud of it, and of Kev for being there for me for so long. For this image, I just thought of the many things that made me think of Kev: White-haired adrogynous warriors (his favorite types of characters), the color blue, and his famous blue katana. Those who know him personally will understand the deeper symbolisms.

Used stock for the sword you can find here:

We were to pick a name of a random place in Galway and draw what came to mind. From the depths of my subconscious came this image, a blend of inspirations probably from Ritualists in Guild Wars: Factions:, the creepy holly-tattooed chick from Fatal Frame 3, and the long lost fantasy novel of mine that had a blind oracle in it whose eyes were cut out by a mage hunter and whose hair was long and silvery.

Sometimes I worry about my string of mental associations.

The patterns of night had already settled over the quaint little town which came alive with the bustling afterthoughts of nightlife. Through the shifting crowd, a murderer walked, but none would know it from the way he tipped his hat and greeted you with the most charming of smiles. Moments later, his hands would be wrapped around the pretty throat of some unseeming whore, the singing of a knife and a mean hand covering her scream.

And yet it was he who would scream as the shadows themselves came alive and wrapped around his hand, bending back every finger unnaturally. A white face hovered at his back like the face of a ghost, one single white eye boring into him.

"I'm not here to to save her, or anyone, I come only for you." The whore screamed as the murderer was wrenched into the air and pinned against the wall. The flash of a knife drove through the thief's hand into the wall, the ensuing scream covered by the mouth of the creature, holding him in a kiss of death.

One more sigil burned brilliantly into the creature's forearm, the long haired ghost watching the empty shell of the man fall to the ground with disinterest. The poor woman had since wrapped her arms about herself in a fragile shelter.

"Th....thank you.." She murmured deliriously, but froze and hid her eyes as the creature, the man, turned to her and lifted a finger to his lips.

"Shhh....make your peace. I have only devoured one of many." With that, the shadows seemed to seep back into place and the man simply sheathed the knife and strolled out of the alley, blending well with the other creatures of the evening who turned their eyes from everyone in the world.

There is a moment in time where against your will things run backwards. Love becomes hate, life becomes death, and fragility becomes strength. But before that moment of realization where the world begins to make sense, there is only grief.
Drawn for Judith Mayr's Vampire Contest. I chose Eve, her vampire character in a moment most who know her vampiric self would probably not recognize her in. On the day of her wedding, long before she ever became a vampire, her entire family including her fiance was slaughtered in front of her eyes. On that day, she died to her life of innocence as her clan's beloved daughter. She was given one year of mourning. She used it to become a warrior to hunt down the one who did this to her, her own brother Alexander.
I would never consider this character weak or yielding, but I find it fascinating to think that even the strong have had their moments of absolute desolation. Go check out Jude's gallery for more of this lovely character.
