You can see some youtube videos of it, too. I'm really getting into the teaching of watercolor and I learn so much even when I teach. If you're in the Atlanta area, look me up, I'm at The Etiquette School in Cumming teaching on Thursdays!

A warm up from the other day: I can't decide if this is a rhododendron or a peach blossom or what, but I was trying to get my watercolor chops back. Feels so good to paint almost the whole thing with a 1" flat and just three colors. I might have my students work on a watery floral like this, I'm starting up with some watercolor workshops in the Atlanta area at The Etiquette School in Cumming. Come paint with me!

If you're a watercolor lover, you really have to try Arches 300 lb. all rag paper, cold press, if you haven't yet. Many of you may be nodding your heads....it is the Cadillac of all papers, so delicate but scrubbable, so willing to let the colors lie on top of one another transparently. Wow!

Thanks for looking! Check me out at www.susankennedy.com to see more about my art, my instructional workshops, e-books and videos, or just to see what inspires a fellow artist. Thanks for looking!

This is one I did recently which is similar to some of the ocean scenes my students and I worked on in classes. (Come join us if you live in the Atlanta, Forsyth, or Dawson county areas! Go to www.etiquetteschool.net or to www.susankennedy.com to see more!) The sun was sparkling on the waves, and those sparkles on an already light color says "Hot day on the beach" to me! I had gotten lucky and snapped some shots of some gulls and included them in this study of a wave as it hits the jetty. Fellow Edisto lovers will understand why I keep painting this lovely island!

All of you who correspond with me, be praying for my son Brian, he's come down with diabetes and is having a tough time adjusting to such a lifestyle change. He's very active in lots of extracurriculars and sports, so it's been a big upheaval in his life. So remember him, it hurts to see him have to accept such a blow.

Thanks for looking and check me out on ebay or on my site to see some of my auctions, my instructional videos or e-books! Susan

The sun was streaming down on my humble bouquet from behind a stack of paintings, and the lighting was, to me, magical. I based a little floral watercolor on it, and thought I liked the photo better, so I'm putting it on artwanted. Incidentally, if you go to my site you can see a link to my new watercolor and oil painting classes at The Etiquette School in Cumming, Georgia, which is close to Alpharetta, Dawsonville, Gainesville, and Ball Ground. Cool classes, with yours truly in charge. We work on a new demo every week, sometimes based on the demos you'll find in "The Big Book of Painting Nature in Watercolor." Let me know if you want to hear more, and come paint with me!

I say "imagined" because I wanted to do a yellow rose (one of my favorite subjects) but didn't have one on hand. And I wanted to put it in my glass sugar bowl, but wanted to modify the bowl and make it taller. So here is the result: cropped, actually, because the uncropped version has an opening bud higher up. (You can see it on my ebay gallery if your search ebay for seller "susankennedy"). There is something so poignant about watercolor, I have been dying to get back to this medium. Have been suffocating in oils, why is that?! Anyway, hope you have enjoyed this one, I'll have a mini e-book (is that an e-chapter/) on my lulu.com store, showing the steps of painting this little watercolor. Have a wonderful and arty day!

The watercolors are calling to me. And I love painting this dragon plate!!! Am working on an oil which has this plate in it, maybe i'll put a picture up here. If you're interested in my watercolor instruction e-books, including a booklet on the painting of this watercolor, search wonderful old lulu.com for "susankennedy" and you'll find all my little books! Wa-HOOOOOOOOOO!!! What a relief, it feels like swimming in a pool of cool water after slogging through the sludge of oil paint! Not that I don't love oils, but one sure needs a break when that watercolor calls. I've actually made a demo from the painting process; that is, an e-booklet...you can see it and all my other watercolor instructional e-books at lulu.com if you just search for "susankennedy." (Cool site, by the way!) Had a blast painting it loosely but with a bit of detail. This piece brings back fun memories because we were camping in a little cabin in North Georgia, and when it poured down rain we watched movies and shot photos of glasses full of the gorgeous azaleas which were blooming in great masses in the front flower beds. If you've read some of my still life descriptions, you might know that the often-present paintbrushes are stand-ins for ME! Email me for any more details and thanks for looking!
Blog Entry - September 01, 2009

Wow, I forgot I had a blog here! I can see I ranted about a year ago about mass-produced art, so I'll be more mellow now. Maybe it's the choral music I'm listening to. ; )

Thanks so much to all of my friends on artwanted for your encouragement.

It's been a tough year personally and professionally! All of the galleries carrying my work closed in 2008 due to bad economic circumstances, and I've been teaching painting to stay in the art field. You can find me at The Etiquette School in downtown Cumming teaching watercolor and oils, and also at the Cumming, Georgia Hobby Lobby teaching oils.

On a personal note, we've had a hard blow when my son came down with Type 1 Diabetes this past summer. It's really tough on a teenager looking at college and the future, so say a prayer for him.

I hope that you have a wonderful fall in your art and photography, and I'll look forward to seeing everyone's work on artwanted!

Blog Entry - February 08, 2008

Thanks to all for a warm welcome to the ArtWanted site! I've been impressed by the creativity and scope of the work here; here's hoping that all of us can help to make this a truly innovative and successful site.

One of my biggest gripes (on the subject of art) is the persistence of the public (in my area of the country) in looking only at art packaged and marketed by Pottery Barn, Target, Wal-Mart, or heaven forbid, a supposed "fine art gallery" which sells assembly line "originals" which are imported from Asia. Even in Hyde Park last summer, when I went with great excitement to see the artists setting out their wares, I was saddened to see them pulling piles of cookie cutter "paintings" with bubble wrap still on them, the lot number on the back, and a UPS label on the brown paper somewhere.

If we as artists are going to compete with this globalized art market, we are going to have to join local groups and do what we can to introduce the public to fine art. Let's educate them about the intrinsic and satisfying value of
a piece of art made by one person with a brush in her hand, a vision in her head, and a muse on her shoulder.

Go artists!
