Pastel pencil on black paper, 9"x12", I have been unable to paint for some time after prolapsing 3 disks in my lower spine, several weeks in hospital, several weeks using a Zimmer frame and unable to sit for long periods. I am now able to get about on 2 sticks with the help of quite high doses of morphine. I am due surgery soon but am now able to get back to my studio for short periods. Therefore i am getting back into the flow with quick works such as this and my previous painting 'Stolen kiss Tango' each taking around 90 minutes. it feels good to be able to put pastel to paper again and I hope to be painting more regularly very soon.

I painted this little fellow for my sister in law on a visit to her home, she collects pigs in any form, ceramic, pottery, brass etc. so a painting seemed the fitting gift for our stay

This painting was inspired by a set of photo that depicted the Great depression in the USA. I have deliberately kept the colors subdued and washed out to portray the tiredness of the subject and the feeling of rest.
