©Seth F. Weaver, Sr. 04/11/13. This artwork features the gorgeous actress Mapi Galan. This is dedicated to all the people who immigrate from their native countries and embrace new cultures and languages. The thrill of a new life and the fact that you have communication issues must be daunting, my respect for their courage and wanting a better life for their family is understandable.
My daughter-in-law is from Peru. She is multilingual in English and Spanish and can go from one language to the other at the snap of a finger. My language switch was broken a long time ago and she laugh at me when I make up Spanglish words like casa de peepee for el banyo. This work is dedicated to Mapi Galan, my model and Katia M. Weaver, my beautiful daughter-in-law. A Compullage? creation.

Girl in the Bloodstained Coat by Seth Weaver

©Seth F. Weaver, Sr. 03/21/13. I?m still haunted by my Schindlerjuden work based on the 1993 film ?Schindler?s List.? This work is dedicated to the Jewish people and the memory of that great film.
Roma Ligocka, was a real little girl, who was known in the Krakow Ghetto for her red coat. Ligocka, unlike he fictional counterpart, survived the Holocaust. After the film was released, she wrote and published her own story, *The Girl in the Red Coat: A Memoir(2002, in translation). The scene, however was constructed on the memories of Zelig Burkhut, survivor of Plaszow (and other work camps). When interviewed by Spielberg before filming began, Burkhut told of a young girl wearing a pink coat, no older than four, who was shot by a Nazi officer right before eyes. He said ?it is something that stays with you forever.?
Spielberg said after filming was over ??America, Russia, and England all knew about the Holocaust when it was happening and did nothing about it?.It was a large bloodstain on everyone?s radar?and that is why I wanted to bring the color red in it.? Red is the only color in this black and white film. Oliwia Dabrowska played the girl in the red coat. A Compullage? creation.

Weaver, Sr. 03/17/13. She was born as sweet Norma Jean Mortenson in Los Angeles. Raised in foster homes and by uncaring relatives all her life she looked for love, attention, and big city bright lights. She was a natural beauty. That some saw how they could manipulate and use to their advantage. She became addicted to fame, stardom, and movie executives lies. Always wanting to please because this is why people love you she thought. Loved by fans, with crippling stage fright and emotional insecurities she some how endured in a world of fantasy and make-up. Marrying many times but never being loved she always wanted a baby. She wanted a baby so she could give it the love she wanted when she was a child. It all ended one day in a blur of pills and regrets. A Compullage?

Weaver, Sr. 10/03/12. A sad tale of an unhappy soul. A lovely lady who preferred to live in her past, would escape each day in her big lonely old house to her secluded attic. There she would dress in her antique finery and sit in front of her floor length mirror and carry on conversations with her memories. Talk to people that had discarded or forgotten her. Dreaming of lost loves who cared no more. She would spend hours talking and singing as her world changed around her. Each visit to the attic became longer and longer until her health made it hard for her to get there. She finally kissed the real world good bye and went to her attic and locked the door behind her. There she died among her memories and the spiders wove a silk shawl around her to hold her dreams. A bittersweet life. A mixed media work=Compullage? and Scribblertool.

Weaver, Sr. 08/09/12. All our ancestors and all life are found in our DNA. Our looks, gender, likes and dislikes, eye, skin, and hair color?all the information is amazingly found there so simple yet so complex and unimaginable. Even the diseases that may ultimately end our lives are encoded in our DNA. What makes us and takes us all in our each own blueprint of life. A Compullage? creation.

Weaver, Sr. 08/09/12.This work was inspired by an antique photo of legendary actress Barbara Stanwyck (10-12 years old). I played with the old image and thought she made a great little mermaid.
Rising from the ocean floor in an explosion of bubbles and silt, to oversee her enchanted underwater kingdom. A manta ray and a whale await her bidding and to escort her on her rounds of the deep.

Weaver, Sr. 08/29/12. This image was inspired by the great Randy Newman's song "Feels Like Home." I felt that this slavery image and that song had a deep kinship, each one further illustrates the other. My mind has a habit of putting unrelated things together, very quickly sometimes. This is a photo of an old dilapidated barn in Eastern North Carolina and my imaginings about the family that might have lived there. All they had was each other and a home. A Compullage? creation.

Sometime doctors can help and sometimes they can?t. My sincerest sympathies to all sufferers. A Compullage? creation.

Weaver, Sr. 08/03/12. An old black and white photo of a famous Hollywood dancer that I played with using a background that I had created. I think the two images work well together to display the magic of the moment. I think the Nat King Cole song, "Dance, Ballerina, Dance" really describes this work. A Compullage?/Manipuography? creation.
