Oumbie by Joanne Woolley

This is Oumbie, a 28 stone silverback from Twycross Zoo in Leicestershire, England. He's a western lowland gorilla and he's been introduced to the zoo to woo the lady gorillas there. lol. He's doing a pretty good job too from newspaper reports. I haven't used my pencils for over a year now, I was a bit nervous, maybe I'd forgot how to, I've really missed them and enjoyed doing this so much I want to do more pencil work again. This is my first commissioned piece of work for quite some time. I saved a photo from a magazine, so i could do this for my son, but I have painted it for the plumbers son instead as he saw my spiderman paintings hanging in my dining room and told me he'd love one doing of Batman. It took me roughly 45 hours over the past month to do and he came to pick it up last night. He seemed really pleased with it and said it was going in his 13 month old son's room. He'll hopefully grow to appreciate it over the years lol. Thanks for taking a look and some more for leaving a comment, Joanne:-)

I bought this little table to rest my paints and water on while I paint and thought I'd give it a splash of colour first, so it had to be Spidey of course. The lines for the buildings took the most time to paint, but I got there in the end, haha! I think this was a cool picture to choose for this kind of surface as it looks like he's reaching out to me. LEGENDARY by Joanne Woolley

I promised my 10 year old son I'd paint this for his bedroom. I used the cover of his Legenday Xbox game as reference for this. The game's about an art thief who accidentally opens Pandoras Box and unleashes lots of mythical creatures. He then has to try to close the box whilst battling them. It's had the thumbs up from him and it just needs a frame now. It's done on canvas board measuring 50 x 40 cm in acrylic paint. Thanks for taking a look, Joanne:)

Painted on canvas measuring 80cm x 60cm in acrylic, one of my favourite subjects again, Spiderman. This took about 60 hours on and off for the past 5 weeks. I intended to try and sell this one, but its gone right next to the other one in my dining room, I just can't part with them. Lingga blowing Connor a kiss by Joanne Woolley

This is Lingga again blowing Connor a kiss, she was adorable. We went back to Monkey World a couple of weeks ago, it was brilliant again. They have the 88 rescued capuchins from Chile now, which arrived there early last year. After living in cages their whole lives, they twitch and walk round in small circles still, but they are gradually adapting to their freedom and it's so heart warming to see them so happy and living a normal, sociable life. Lingga from Monkey World by Joanne Woolley

This is a photo I took last year when we went to Monkey World. This is Lingga, who was very entertaining, though we could only view her at the time through a window, I got some very nice pictures of her staring at my son. She was born in Paris in August 2005 at the Menagerie du Jardin des Plantes, but was cared for by the keepers there as her mother rejected her. She was moved to Monkey World when she was two so she could grow up with her own kind. Thanks for taking a look, Joanne:)

A commissioned piece drawn for the girlfriend of a friend at work. She loves all things Disney. I've never met her, but her boyfriend assures me she will love it! I hope so. I did this for my husband who thinks she is stunning and I have to agree. I started while he was away for the weekend and had nearly finished it when he came home. To my disappointment though, he doesn't think it looks like her, but never mind, it's been practice for me with a new medium, I'll have to do another one for him, lol! Done using water colour pencils which I applied with a brush to start with, then worked over with them dry to finish. I used water colour paper which doesn't buckle when you wet it.
