I was in a little bit of a dark mood when I painted this. I think that definitely shows in the piece. The title kept repeating itself over in my head as I was painting, so I figured that is what she wanted to be named. He hee!

With the weather warming up over here in Australia I wanted to paint a mermaid with a summery feel. I love turquoise it is one of my favourite colours and it seems to go well with pink. It is the first time in a long time that I knew what colours would suit the artwork from the moment I had the sketch done, and that is a rare blessing as I usually find picking colours the hardest part. A mermaid sits in a clamshell in her undersea haven. She has an iridescent tail which changes colour to match her surroundings. It appears she is waiting for someone, I wonder who or what it could be?
