Taibhse is the Irish word for ghost and it is a fitting title for these glowing, ghost-like silhouette pieces. The paintings in this collection are of a style developed by and exclusive to this artist. Experimenting with several types of paint, including glass and porcelain paint, a textured, luminous and multifaceted background is achieved. By stippling colors of several types of paint in many layers, the background/sky is the real focal point of these shimmering pieces. It also adds texture and ever-changing shades and hues when viewed in different lighting. This also results in ?imperfections? that make the pieces even more enchanting. The bright skies and the flat black of the silhouettes add perfect contrast. The fascinating and beautiful shapes of trees in silhouette against a colorful sky make these original and unique pieces truly stunning! The pieces in this collection can best be appreciated by purchasing the originals. Each piece is signed and dated by the artist and no two are alike.

Throughout my life I have been fascinated by the beauty of gemstones, minerals, crystals and stained and blown glass. Inspired by the transparent and luminous colors, I set out to create the depth and color present in stones such as agates and opals and the free flowing movement of color in blown glass. I pour multiple layers of various types of paint and pigments as well as minerals, rocks and semi-precious stones that I have finely ground by hand onto a black canvas. I tilt the canvas allowing the colors to flow freely. Each layer of color is then covered with several layers of clear enamel and resin, building numerous layers to achieve a textured, three-dimensional result. Some pieces even have chunks of sea glass as well as larger, more coarsely ground pieces of semi-precious stones embedded within them. The finished piece can be hung in any direction and framed with or without glass.

A favor for a dear friend of mine,
Stephen Markham. He is in a contest in Ireland called Meteor Apprentice. He needs all the fans he can get so he doesn't get 'fired' and I'm asking all my artwanted friends to help. Please follow the link below and become a fan. The explaination and instructions are on his page. It doesn't cost anything but a moment of your time. He and his family are my 'adopted' family when I am in Ireland and they are wonderful people. Stephen really deserves to win this thing. Thanks for your support!
