November has been beautiful so far. October was cold and wet, but I still got a few paintings started at the Bennett Springs Plein Air workshop with Dennis Yates. I'll be uploading a few paintings that are in progress. I don't usually do that, but what the heck. Maybe that will inspire me to finish them. It's always hard for me to finish paintings in the studio, that I started outside. Photos are never as good as the real thing.... All the bad news on the TV is so depressing. Need to just turn it off and remember how blessed I am to live in such a great area, and to have such a great family and friends. More paintings coming soon.

Fall is in the air. Morning Solitude was started on site at Truman Lake, near Osceola, MO. I loved the huge rocks. It looked like it would or could have been a quarry area, and the rocks have just toppled down. The area can change daily, as the water level fluctuates. The coolness in the air causes a panic in me to get more done outside, as the inevitable Winter approaches.

This newest painting was done at the Waterfowl refuge here on Stockton Lake. The fog was just lifting as I tried to get set up. There were some white egrets there, but they quickly fled when they saw us painting.

Summer has flown by. I've enjoyed the rain and cool weather we've had this July. I've even been out a few times painting plein air. Blackjack is one I finished recently. I also have 12 paintings in Springfield, MO, at the Midtown-Carnegie Library, on the corner of Jefferson and Central. They will be there until September 12th, as part of the "Art in Public Places" program. I will post the date of the reception as soon as it is set. Come by and take a look, if you are in the area.

Sorry to say ArtsFest was a wash out, as it was cold Sat., and rained all day Sunday. A nice lady did purchase two small paintings, and I met some really nice folks. A cute little girl named Abby bought a small sailboat painting I donated for the "Kids to Purchase Art". Don't know who got the "Frog, Hanging On" painting. I have another show to be in Sat. in Bolivar, MO., in the Court House. 9:00 to 3:00. My next project will be to place my art in "Art in Public Places" in Springfield, MO, in the next month or so. More on that later.

I'm counting down the days until this 2009's ArtsFest on Walnut Street in Springfield, Missouri. May 2nd & 3rd. I'm privileged again this year to be juried into the show, sharing a booth with a jewelry artist. I've uploaded two paintings done from photos of last years festival. It was a great time, and I'm hoping for great weather again this year. I have a couple more paintings to get done before the show. Come by and say "Hi" if you're able to make the Festival. It's all day Saturday & Sunday.

The Sun is shining. It's cool, but at least there is a hint of Spring in the air. I uploaded a new photo today. Another painting started at Bennett Springs, above the small dam at the trout hatchery. I couldn't resist putting in this fisherman, although the person standing there changed as I was painting this. This area is a favorite fishing site, as the water is a little deeper.
I hope you enjoy this. I just picked it up from a Gallery show at the Southwest Baptist University, Driskill Gallery.

Winter has hit here in Missouri this week. We had and inch of ice and 5 inches of snow, and 16 degree highs. So time to finish some of the paintings I started in the Fall. It kind of helps to bring back the memories of those nice Fall days. I'll upload a couple of them I've finished, when they dry enough for me to get a good photo. I hope you enjoy them. Susan

September 17, 2008 I had a good time painting at the Ha Ha Tonka State Park here in Missouri, a couple weeks ago. A group from Oil Painters of America met at the park for a Saturday paint-out. No competition, just a day to paint. It's a beautiful park, with acres and acres of things to see. The beautiful Spring comes out from under a cliff, and flows down into the Lake of the Ozarks. It took me all morning to decide on a painting site. That afternoon, I settled in just below the Spring. I kept being distracted by an Otter, that was feeding just a few feet from me. It would have been nice to paint him in the picture, but he was too quick for me! I promised myself that I will go back to paint there again.
