Just like sports fans collect baseball cards of their favorite players, art fans collect art cards of their favorite artists or artwork. An art card is a small pocket-sized piece of art. They are commonly know as ACEO (Art Cards, Editions & Originals) as well as ATC (Artist Trading Cards). ATCs are only traded between artists, ACEOs are normally purchased. They can be original artwork or prints/reproductions of original artwork. These cards are bought, sold and traded all over the world! The official standard size of an art card is 2.5" x 3.5" (64 x 89 mm). ACEO's make excellent contemporary framed wall art with over sized matting.

A quick drawing exercise reference adapted from "Rachel", an 1867 photograph by Julia Margaret Cameron. Second image shows close-up details. In the past, most of my body form poses were based upon my own reflection, so I began to study postures through other art imagery. This particular piece was helpful in understanding the relationships between the arms and breasts with the subsequent effects upon clothing fabric.

Most every year, on my birthday, I paint something for myself. This particular year I wasn't feeling much in the mood to immerse myself in a full sized painting, so I grabbed my sketch book and the oil pastel sticks to attack my reflection in a distant mirror. Scribbling & scratching for about an hour, I left the drawing unfinished (my eyes are hazel green). I felt much better afterwards :)

With mischief in mind, a black kitty can't hide a wicked nature in this original painting on acid free 110 lbs paper. Sized at 8 1/2" x 11", (mat and frame are not included with purchase of original). Painted with various acrylic paints, the areas of blue have a mild metallic sheen for a magic touch, that does not show in the low resolution online image provided here; it catches the light with a slight sparkle. The image began as a playful monoprint, where wet paint strokes were applied to a piece of glass and then the paper was placed on top. This method creates fun, random background papers for me to later work into more refined art. This is the original artwork and not a print or reproduction.

Blog Entry - March 10, 2009

I can hardly believe it's March 2009! I joined ArtWanted many years ago now, so there's some dust on the pages. Today I'm very near finished clearing and cleaning house in my online portfolio and can hardly wait to upload some of the newer creations I have to show. For the longest time I was unable to access my stuff on AW, but I think I've finally got it cleared up. It's good to be back!
