Getting to Know your New Portfolio Layout

As part of our new website redesign, we have also updated the look and feel of the portfolios of all our members. The changes were made to make the portfolio look cleaner, easier to navigate and bring more focus to the artwork of the artist. A lot of thought about each piece of your portfolio was considered in the redesign and we received great suggestions from our members. This blog post explains each section of your portfolio and the options you have to customize it.

Here is an example from one of our members where we will explain the various parts of each portfolio.

1. PORTFOLIO HEADER – At the top of each section of your portfolio is your name in large text and the section you are on in a smaller text. We also display a small round image next to your name that we call your “Featured Image”. The circle image can be customized in your USER PREFERENCES with one of these four options:

a) Random Portfolio Image (default)
b) Your Most Recent Image
c) Your Self-Portrait Image
d) Any image you choose from your portfolio

To choose the image you want to display for option #4, simply click the SET FEATURED IMAGE link (with the pushpin icon) in your ARTIST FUNCTIONS section, which is found to the left of any image in your portfolio.

2. PORTFOLIO SECTION ICON STRIP – Some portfolios have only a few sections, while others have many. The options you see depends on what information you have added to your portfolio and also your account type. Clicking on any icon will display that section of your portfolio. Here is a list of the 8 possible icons that are available:

a) GALLERY – This is the default section for your portfolio and where visitors will view all of your artwork. If you are a Premium Member and you have your artwork categorized in groups, those will show on this page as well.

b) STORE – If you have listed any of your artwork for sale, then this icon will show on your portfolio. It allows your website visitors that are wanting to buy to filter out only your artwork that is for sale. We also display the sales price on this section.

c) VIDEO – If you have added a video to your portfolio, then this icon will show, so users can view your video(s). Normally this is where an artist will link to a portfolio video or a tutorial video they have created that may be on YouTube or Vimeo.

d) BIO – If you have taken the time to write a bio about yourself, then this icon will show on your portfolio. You can add the text to your bio from the Edit Contact Information page in the Members Area. If you have uploaded a self-portrait image in your USER PREFERENCES, that image will show up on this page.

e) PRIAVTE GALLERY (PREMIUM) – If you are ArtWanted.com Premium Member, you can setup a private gallery page where you can upload artwork that is not seen by the general public. Each private gallery has a special keyword that must be entered before you can view those private images.

f) BLOG (PREMIUM) – If you are using the blog/journal feature of our website, your blog will show up in this section.

g) CONTACT INFO – This is how people will contact you if they want to reach out to you. This page has an e-mail form along with links to all your social media sites. You can also choose to show your mailing address or phone number on this page as well.

h) WEBSITE – If you have an official website and you have entered that into your contact information, then this link will appear and link your ArtWanted.com visitors to your official/alternate website. Each time a user clicks this link, we record a hit in your statistics area.

3. SECTION HEADER – The section that you are currently viewing in your portfolio will be shown in blue in this area. If you are inside a sub-gallery, then the name of the sub-gallery will show in this area.

4. ADD TO FAVORITES – In the top right corner of all pages you will find the “cookie trail” that shows you where you are at in the website. On the artist portfolio, we add the “Add to Favorites” link, so anyone can click this link while viewing your portfolio. When an artist is added as a favorite, the user can also get e-mailed each time you post new artwork with our ArtWatch feature.

5. SUB-GALLERY HEADER IMAGE STRIP – Some artists have very large portfolios and they may want to bring attention to specific images at the top of their portfolio. This Premium Member feature allows the artist to highlight specific images in their portfolio in this area. There are currently 4 options that can be configured in the USER PREFERNCES area.

a) Most Recent Uploads
b) Artist’s Favoriate Images
c) Most Popular Images
d) Random Portfolio Images

6. IMAGE COUNT – This shows the number of images that are contained in your ArtWanted.com portfolio.

7. PORTFOLIO CONTENT – This area will change depending on what section of the portfolio the visitor might be looking at.

The main GALLERY section is the default page. The default view is to show 5 columns of staggered artwork, so your art uses all of the screen space available. However, you can change the layout of your gallery from the settings in your USER PREFERENCES area (like the example above). Premium Members have additional layout options that are not available on our free accounts. Additional layouts for both free and Premium members will be available in the future as well.

We hope that this information has been helpful for you to better understand your portfolio elements and what customization options are available to you.

Below you will find another member example of a portfolio using our Premium sub-gallery feature. Additional layout options are available in the USER PREFERENCES page in the Members Area. Enjoy!
