America....land of the free, home of the brave

JFK'S Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 60's when DeGaule decided to pull out of NATO. DeGaule said he wanted all US military out of France as soon as possible. Rusk responded, "Does that include those who are buried here?" DeGaule did not respond.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When in England , at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of 'empire building' by George Bush. He answered by saying, "Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return." You could have heard a pin drop. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There was a conference in France where a number of international engineers were taking part, including French and American. During a break, one of the French engineers came back into the room saying, "Have you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he intend to do, bomb them?" A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: "Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry half a dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and from their flight deck. We have eleven such ships; how many does France have?" You could have heard a pin drop. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that included Admirals from the U.S., English, Canadian, Australian and French Navies At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large group of officers that included personnel from most of those countries. Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked, "Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than speaking French?" Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied, "Maybe it's because the Brit's, Canadians, Aussie's and Americans arranged it so you wouldn't have to speak German." AND THIS STORY FITS RIGHT IN WITH THE ABOVE... Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane. At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry on. "You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked sarcastically. Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously. "Then you should know enough to have your passport ready." The American said, "The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it." "Impossible. Americans always have to show their passports on arrival in France !" The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he quietly explained, 'Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in 1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find a single Frenchmen to show a passport to." You could have heard a pin drop.
I am from London UK, Martha, and reading your fine post brought tears to my eyes as I remembered visiting the US army cemetery that we have here just north of Cambridge. In that beautifully kept hallowed place there are, as far as the eye can see, graves where the brave Americans who fought for our freedom against the Germans during World War 2 are at rest. If ever people comment about the Americans in a bad way (which, happily is rare here), I recommend them to visit that cemetery, knowing that the very sight and extent of it will bring a sense of reality and deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by the United States in the defence of our freedoms.
I heard on the news this morning that Madonna sang the National Anthem at some event recently (I think it was in CA) and deliberately butchered it up very badly. The part that is supposed to be sung "land of the free and the home of the brave" she sang "land of the free and home for the gays". That's really disgusting but it will get her publicity and her queer fans will love her for it.
She should be "BANNED" from America.........and all proceeds held in lieu of an apology to the American People !
The moral majority is losing to the corrupt, especially sponsored by the greedy politician and liberal left. Transgender ? 6 year old is being recognized. I think this says something not only of the parents but of the sick society of the "me" state. Who determines when one is a queer? I'd use the word gay, but I prefer the original definition.
I agree RQ......The NEW rules are ALL FU**ED UP ! ! !
You might say all SU**ED, Thom. Even the Boy Scouts are being corrupted as they have recently decided to admit "gay" boys to the organization. For more than a hundred years, the Boy Scouts of America organization has existed and has been the guiding force for millions of boys, leading them through childhood and into honorable manhood. The motto of boy scouts says it all: On my honor, I will do my best To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.
Being morally straight means to live your life with honesty, to be clean in your speech and actions, and to be a person of strong character. Homosexuality is the exact opposite of this statement. A homosexual boy is, in no sense of the word, "morally straight". To have homosexual boys and straight boys snuggling under blankets by the campfire and sleeping together in tents is a combination that will lead to the moral decay of all the boys.
Admitting homosexual boys into the Boy Scouts is a shame and a national tragedy!
The joys of how society ?? and parents manipulate adolescents and their growing up hormones. I reiterate, these parents who push these agendas are the ones that shouldn't be allowed to be parents. 6 year old transgenders. 5, 6, even 10 or 12 year old gay kids ? I could go on and on about what I think about our younger society of today, but it's to no avail. All's fair and suppose to be ACCEPTED in today's society :((
