Getting ideas for drawing from reference photos

I found a talent that I kind of have just a while back which if you have seen my recent stuff mainly all fantasy. Maybe a few real things I did draw that really did not have a so called real world around it. To get to the point,drawing from photos but not copying them can be hard to get the exact way it looks, which for me ends up in a type of illustration form which is good because you have your art views put into it,not an exact replica.

So believe in yourself that you are good. There may be people who totally go against looking at reference photos but but it is still art and you for those that do you put your work into it atleast you do not cheat somehow.

Reference photos are part of the art of illustration aren't the?

Thanks you for bringing that up but I was not for sure positive about how alot of the illustrators worked.

Reference photos can take you to places you are not able to go and time is not a factor. I use them feel they work very well.

My studio has hundreds of books and magazines showing as many species of animal and plant life I can find in case I need reference data. In earlier days I'd go to libraries to do the research. I also have a collection of most of the best known animal illustrator's works in various forms including actual prints. Having other's art around helps me come up with original stuff of my own as it inspires me.

Without these my animal work might look like the cave man drawings(which might sell better).
