Montmartre:Place Dalida

I chose this scene to paint because it has a the elements necessary to create an image with a tranquil, mystical aura. At the corner in the center of is the restaurant La Maison Rose De La Butte Montmartre (The Pink House of Montmartre) which was a favorite subject of the many French impressionist painters that lived on Montmartre. It is a 7 x 10 inch watercolor that I may do as a larger painting. I would hesitate doing it as a larger work because a small painting can have a much more intimate feel that would be lost at a larger size. I greatly increased the contrast so the lines would be easier to see. I draw these scenes on watercolor paper with a 9H lead; the hardest lead available.
