One of a set of fifty (!) caricatures for a private commission. © Copyright Graviton Creations ltd. 2004 Two things about this image, first, I painted it while listening to one of the Harry Potter audio books and I think there's a Hogwarts influence in it, and secondly, I had the best fun inventing names for the books in the background.

this is really unusual... very good work. great style and technique.
Artist Reply:   Cheers John. Have I said that all these designs were to be printed around coffee mugs, hence the composition? I haven't? Oh, well, all these - oh.

This is really an effective illustration style that could be applied to a lot of magazine and book illustration. Your composition is also striking because it breaks all the traditions so very well.
Artist Reply:   Cheers Sandy, that's a dead nice thing to say. And yes, if there are any art directors out there take Sandy's advice and commission me today for full-flavoured illustrations with added tradition breakage and honey-smoked composition.

What an incredible good work! First I thought you put the head digitaly out from a photo and put it in your painting - wow - wonderful done.
Artist Reply:   Hey Rita, well, the image is based on a photo so your original assumption is right, but I use the photo at 20% opacity to trace the black outline, then paint the colour back in (I use Painter software) by hand on a separate layer to give it that 'look'. The background and everything else is all invented and again painted by hand. Looks good dunnit? :-)
