Most of us have heard the sound of wind moving through tall grass, or the Toetoe bush and plumes themselves. We would surely then agree that the sound is similar to that made when putting your index finger to your lips and expelling your breath through your teeth – Shushhhhhh. Thus the hushed voices are represented here through the detail of the Toetoe plume, and their silence is assured as they are contained within the walls of the Harakeke weave. © 2009 Susan Haywood Smith
