Pacific Autumn

The palm in this image is a Nikau. Its strong sculptural form is prevalent in the bush surrounding where I grew up. It is a very proud and majestic tree, qualities which I hoped to capture in this piece. The four sections below the Nikau represent both land and water. The red over orange are the water themes. The top left are waves and the bottom right spiral is inspired by the Waka. The red over pink are land in the form of abstract frangipani. This makes reference to both the subtropical environment and Polynesian surrounds of my upbringing.
