I have a liking for old barns.. to me they are always so interesting, fascinating structures. Perhaps no other native architecture better exemplifies the spirit of the American pioneers than their barns. These buildings, built with heavy timbers harvested from the virgin forest, were hewn to size by hand with the ancient broadax and adz. I have been struck as to why these barns are so often painted red?. Research indicates several reasons, one is as European settlers crossed over to America, they brought with them the tradition of red barns. In the mid to late 1800s, as paints began to be produced with chemical pigments, red paint was the most inexpensive to buy and therefore very popular. Any way I love to capture barns of any color..this barn on a farm in Ohio from one of my photographs …… in pastels . . . . . .
