I believe the true name is American Coot, strangest looking bird I've seen or heard for that matter. The call of the bird resembles that of a fart... maybe thats where the saying "You old coot" came from :) This shot was taken at Burnaby Lake, Vancouver, B.C. at the protected bird sanctuary.
