family history: Dad barnstormed with Satchel and The Babe and became an umpire after he hurt his hand.... damn good pitcher......hell of an athlete... Lefty O'Doul's comment to me, when I was ~21, and on my first trip to SF: "Your Dad was the only umpire I almost ever liked" (My dad had thrown him out of the first game they had together, when Lefty was managing.... Lefty respected that....
