the Chapel

A charming chapel belonging to the lokal Rolsoe Manor house. I come here when I can, it is a wonderful place, the building is very old (1175) and very difficult to draw and paint

Looks like it is getting ready to storm.... very interesting building and I can see that it has some unusual features that might be hard to capture... the little round-top entryway is different, and I have never seen the built up decorative under-the-eaves area . It is a very old antique building, very well captured in your painting.

Artist Reply: it is logik to think the round thing is a gate way, the entance is in the other end, the round thing is an apsis, the hollow space behind the alter. what I found difficult, was to explain the soil level is changing dramaticly around the building, with no reference. The grass is shining up on the wall in the sunlit area and the wall in shadow had taken the blue from the sky so in order to make the sun shine I had to increase the density of the other colors f.eks. a darker sky, which again makes the painting more dramatic than it realy was:)
