Harvesting the willows

Streching my sore back, I got time for a small sketch, of the four women I was working with, my wife is stacking and labeling the different sorts, Yellow Alba, LNJ, Blues, Laurel, Americana, Longo folie, Hans Crhristian Andersen, and other kinds. They are cut down every year are between 20" and 12 foot, every sort have different abillities and are sortet out in lenght in 4" intervals and sorts. Then thy are dried and can last as long as you wish, but before use the have to soke in wather to regain willowy abilityes for making baskets:)

This is a very informative sketch.... I had no idea you grew them in rows, just like a garden! Now I am curious about the making of the baskets and which type of willow is good for what purpose..... :-)
