The Skating Party: Lockport N.Y. ca 1910

This is a 29"x 41" watercolor or the Lockport fives not long before they were converted to two larger locks to accomodate the increased traffic on the Erie Canal.

A marvelous work, Stanton... the details are always accurate perspectively speaking... I cannot vouch for historically as I was not alive then and you, I imagine were not either! How lovely to see a painting of Lockport where my great-grandfather lived and I have visited many times. Your dramatic skies are just superb!

What Patience and reverie of painting!! I covet your sense of balance and your understanding of exploiting the illusion of movement on a two dimensional surface.

Oh wow! How beautiful is that! Life was simpler back then and the little, simpler things in life made life fun and interesting.
