Irshad Manji-The Trouble with Islam (2005) (Gifted

Irshad Manji, author of "The Trouble with Islam" stand in front of the Kaaba at Mecca. Her controversial book has won her death threats from Islamic fundamentalists and she has been called "worse than Osama bin Laden" by some clerics. She is also an openly lesbian islamic woman, an ususal combination. (This painting is now in the collection of Irshad Manji.)

This is a powerful portrait of a very strong and dynamic woman. Her hands are held up in the attitude of prayer and her eyes are shining with the light of compassion. She is fearless! Beautifully painted David!
