Mane Event

Kinetic, welded, recycled steel, 72" by 48" by 48", copyright 1999 Mane Event is made from eight fifty- five gallon drums, two door knobs, three bicycle sprockets, two garden rakes, spring steel whiskers, garden tiller teeth, oil cart wheels, five screen door pullies, a large pipe flange bolted to a diamond plate and truck tire rim base. All of the color is original to the materials chosen. It was originally conceived as a mail box that would open it's mouth and extend it's tongue to receive the mail. Things got a little carried away though, so I decided instead to mount it on a base that could easily be wheeled around the yard. The lower jaw is hinged and when pulled down, opens to extend a big pink tongue in a decidedly licking fashion. When it is raised, the tongue automatically retracts in like style, and the mouth is held shut with a magnetic catch.

Amazing work! You need a better photo, though. This needs to stand out more.

Outstanding metal work John! The mouth is fascinating! So your art is not only beautiful, but also functional. He reminds me of the lion from the "Wizard of Oz." The mechanics of this piece are so very interesting. It's pure mechanical genious! I love this! I'll have to explore the rest of your portfolio for these kinds of treasures.
