The Swirling Femininity of Harmonic Growth

Something different than my usual uploads. This is an experiment with symmetrical balance, color play, and form function. I have been the instructor or many workshops on composition and developed this piece as one of the examples that i use in the classes. I wanted to show how symmetrical balance in a composition is not just placing objects exactly in proportion to the other. AS the opposing balance occurs, many subtle breakdowns in form and shape create unique organic properties that allow the symmetry to essentially dissipate ina very subtle way. In this work, although it seems to be a perfect repitition of the lady, if you study it closely many unique areas of form and shape are generated from this repitition. Also, color begins to create patches of patterns within this symmetry. Copyright 2004 by Imaginative Pencil and Myself. All rights reserved.

I thought symmetrical balanced mirrored perfectly, but not like this--but why not? This is symmetrical, but not in an obvious way. This style is what I've just learned about in making motifs for patterns. I love this! Very clever, Justin!
