Grieving Grandmother (Belslan, Russia) 2005

A grieving grandmother holds a photo of her granddaughter. She stands in front of the ill fated school whose lawn is covered with black body bags. 300 children died in this bloody, senseless act of terror.

Everything about this picture conveys the sheer awful, utter hopelessness and tragedy of those terrible days. Something about the blood red buildings and the starkness of the sole leafless tree. The trree looks lifeless, as if no leaves will ever adorn it again. The pain and anguish on the face of the Babushka is emphasised by the purple lines dragging down her face in misery. Suffer the little children...............
