Mayapple plants grow in woods and have two leaves and one bloom; a bud was just forming on the plant in the upper image. The fruit is edible but not the leaves. The root was used as a cathartic in herbal medicine. Quite a number of plants were found sprouting at Daingerfield State Park in Morris County, Texas.
